A role model generally means a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated. Children these days especially teenagers consider different personalities as their role models. These personalities are mostly celebrities, social media influencers, or content creators. Children consider their lives and lifestyles as an inspiration.
Most of the time these people show a fake life to their viewers. Children of teenage groups don’t understand such things and are attracted to them. They start following them in their personal lives
It is also true that we can not keep our children away from the media and media persons completely. As parents, we can help our children see that their true role models should be us, not others.
The best teachers for kids are their parents. They are by your side nearly all the time, observing everything you do. They watch your mannerisms, your conduct, and your interactions with people. Children can even read your body language and facial expressions. Youngsters watch and absorb what you do, and they learn from it.
You can develop your children’s personality by setting a good example for them. You will be their source of motivation and inspiration. Try to help them to take up positive habits and lifestyle choices. You can instill habits that will help them succeed in this life as well as the next.
So, in this blog, we will discuss how as parents we can be a role model for our children. How we can make our lives an inspiration for them so that they do not look upon anyone else?
WORSHIPING ALLAH
The first and foremost thing a child should adopt from their parents is worshipping ALLAH (swt). Youngsters follow your example rather than following your instructions. Thus, set a good example for them and demonstrate to them the beauty of Islam by your actions.
The best approach to demonstrate to your child how you speak with your creator is through salaah. Encourage your kids to join you in prayer, even if they are just imitating at first. Allow them to witness you sitting in obedient submission before Allah. Provide a playable Adhan in your house to emphasize the significance of praying on time. Similarly, pick a location where your kids can listen to you recite the Quran. Let them experience its peace and tranquility.
GRATITUDE
Gratitude is the quality that every Muslim should have. It is the quality that is liked by ALLAH (SWT). Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) always taught us to be grateful for every blessing in our life. Parents must have a grateful nature. They must be thankful to the ALLAH (SWT) for everything.
Parents should thank ALLAH (SWT) through words in front of their children. For example, after eating a yummy snack or an ice cream with children Say ALHAMDULILLAH. After shopping for new clothes or toys say the same to show gratitude towards ALLAH. For every small or big blessing do not forget to thank ALLAH (SWT). Sooner or later your children will adopt the same habit of thanking ALLAH (SWT) for all the blessings in life.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR
Children learn by example. They often imitate the behaviors they see in their parents. By showcasing positive behaviors and positive attitudes you can set a powerful example for your children. You must have kindness, patience, and resilience in your personality. This way your children will also develop these qualities in their personalities. Remember, your actions speak louder than words.
COMMUNICATION
Creating a safe space for open communication is crucial. Encourage your child to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. Before speaking make sure you listen to your children. Let them narrate their thoughts. Be a good listener and talk to them just like friends.
Give them the confidence that they can share their secrets with you. Do not be judgemental towards them. Parents should communicate with their children. Moreover, they should arrange regular talk time with their children.
QUALITY TIME
In today’s busy world, finding quality time with your child can be challenging. However, making an effort to engage in activities can have a strong impact. Spending quality time with children creates a strong bond and leaves lasting memories. These shared experiences contribute to your child’s overall development.
Arrange play dates with your children. Play their favorite games or watch their favorite shows with them together. Create a positive and joyful environment for them to make them comfortable with your presence.
ENCOURAGE A GROWTH MINDSET
Teach your child the value of learning and embracing challenges. A growth mindset promotes resilience and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Share stories of your own experiences and lives. Make them understand that improvement comes with effort and the realization of mistakes
INSTILL EMPATHY AND COMPASSION
Help your child understand the importance of empathy and compassion towards others. Volunteer together, discuss different perspectives, and encourage acts of kindness. These experiences shape their character and contribute to a compassionate worldview.
You as parents must deal with your children and other people with empathy. The children will take you as an inspiration and will follow in your footsteps.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, being a good role model for your child requires ongoing self-improvement and human interaction. You may lay the groundwork for your child’s future success and happiness by modeling the principles you want them to learn. Recall that the little things count and that your impact as a parent is immense.
