Rizq is an Arabic term that encompasses not just wealth but health, offspring, and all other blessings from Allah (SWT). It’s the sustenance we require to lead a happy and peaceful life. In Islam, we believe that Allah is the ultimate provider who gives us everything we need. However, this belief doesn’t mean we should neglect hard work and effort. While Allah has already determined our share of sustenance, our efforts and faith can lead to His pleasure and bring blessings into what we receive. Both the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provide us with different methods to invite barakah (blessings) into our rizq. Below are some ways we can increase our sustenance according to Islamic teachings

1. TRUST IN ALLAH (TAWAKKUL)

The most important step to increasing rizq is to place complete trust in Allah (SWT). He is Ar-Razzaq the ultimate provider , and only He can provide us with what we need in the best way possible. When we truly rely on Allah and hand over our concerns to Him, we are blessed in ways we may never expect. This help can manifest as a new job, good health, knowledge, or sustenance. Allah says in the Quran: “And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” (Quran 65:3)

2. BE PUNCTUAL IN SALAH

The five daily Salah- prayers- are not just ordinary rituals. They are powerful acts of worship that can transform our lives completely. Regular prayer keeps us connected with Allah (SWT), making us more receptive to His blessings. Through punctual Salah, we can invite barakah into our rizq, and Allah accepts our prayers and grants us more than we ask for.

3. GIVE CHARITY (SADAQAH)

Charity is a powerful way to increase rizq. The Quran beautifully illustrates this concept: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a grain of corn that sprouts seven ears; in every ear, there are a hundred grains.” (Quran 2:261) Giving charity not only helps those in need but also increases our provisions. A small act of kindness can multiply our blessings in unimaginable ways.

4. SEEK FORGIVENESS (ISTIGHFAR)

Seeking forgiveness for our sins purifies our souls and invites blessings into our lives. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever constantly seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah will grant him relief from every worry and provide him from sources he could never imagine.” (Abu Dawood) Regularly asking for Allah’s forgiveness opens the doors to increased rizq. It’s a simple yet powerful way to cleanse ourselves and attract more blessings.

5. BE GRATEFUL (SHUKR)

Gratitude is key to receiving more blessings. Allah says in the Quran: “If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.” (Quran 14:7) Practicing gratitude means acknowledging and appreciating the blessings we already have. Whether big or small, recognizing these blessings with gratitude leads to even more rizq. One practical way to do this is by keeping a gratitude journal, where you list daily the blessings you are thankful for.

6. EARN THROUGH HALAL MEANS

Islam emphasizes earning halal income, as it brings true blessings. The Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) clearly distinguish between halal (lawful) and haram (unlawful). When we earn through halal means, our rizq automatically benefits us. On the other hand, income earned through haram means is devoid of blessings, and it displeases Allah (SWT). The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “O people, fear Allah and be decent in seeking provision, for a soul will never die until it finishes its apportioned provision. If it is slow in coming, fear Allah and seek provision gracefully. Take what is lawful and leave what is unlawful.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah 2135)

7. MAINTAIN KINSHIP TIES

Our relationships with our family and relatives play a crucial role in our sustenance. Being kind and humble toward our relatives and maintaining these ties can lead to abundant rizq. Islam encourages us to forgive and maintain good relations, even with those who may have wronged us. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever would like his provision to be abundant and his lifespan to be extended, let him uphold his ties of kinship.” (Bukhari)

8. PRAY TAHAJJUD

The Tahajjud prayer is known for its miraculous blessings. Praying Tahajjud regularly, along with obligatory prayers, invites countless blessings into our lives. Allah (SWT) loves those who wake up in the middle of the night to seek His guidance and mercy. This prayer, offered in the stillness of the night, can open the doors of barakah and rizq in ways beyond our imagination.

9. PRACTICE PATIENCE (SABR)

Patience is an essential quality when seeking sustenance. Allah says in the Quran:   “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Quran 2:153) When we face challenges, patience helps us remain steadfast in our efforts. Trusting that Allah’s timing is perfect can lead to greater rizq and blessings.

CONCLUSION

Increasing rizq in Islam involves a combination of faith, consistent efforts, good character, and maintaining a strong connection with Allah through prayer. By implementing these practices, we can invite barakah into our lives and increase our sustenance in ways that benefit us both spiritually and materially. In addition to these spiritual practices, we must also strive for the best in our worldly efforts. Working hard for our needs, while staying on the right path, ensures that we receive the best provisions from Allah Almighty.
